As a law student back in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, it was a crucial interest to make sure that my work placement would favor and advance my capacity in the field of practical law application. I was fortunate enough to be placed in the Herbert Smith Freehills, one of the most prominent Law Firms out there in the world, as my work placement for 3 weeks. From my first step in the company, I was exposed with hard working, committed staff of the company, which gave me insights on how to disseminate the work that they daily run. Throughout the 2 weeks of my internship, I was fortunate enough to be placed in departments including Finance Real Estate & Projects (FREP), Corporate, Disputes/Litigation, Business Development, Employee Pension & Incentives, etc. Despite the slight contradiction with my focus of studies in International Law, I was able to tackle the challenge of the distinct need of knowledge through the hard work and willingness to learn while running the Intern.
The internship is truly tough, but realizing my position as an Intern in one of the world’s leading law firm, I knew that I had to dedicate and work hard throughout the weeks. The various meetings, overview of the company’s projects, member of virtual meetings among lawyers, presentation hearings, amend some schedule of agreement with clients, analyze some contract, and legal writing trainings are just among the law related excitements that I face during my day-to-day work with the company. I believe that despite just being an intern for a couple of weeks, the company has pushed me in levels that has developed me to be able to generate ideas, create points of research to be considered in projects, and more importantly, being a professional individual in the work field.
